Jane Herbert, Senior English Teacher - Biography
I was a Primary School Teacher and Deputy Head Teacher in England for 25 years before coming to live in Lanzarote.
I love living in Lanzarote, I love the culture of the island and the Spanish language I also enjoy taking part in sports, especially swimming and running, and I play tennis whenever I can.
As part of my teaching career I studied to teach English as a Foreign Language, at that time I was teaching refugee children who spoke a variety of languages including Urdu, Gujarati and Hindi but no English.
Since then I have taught both children and adults from many different countries including France, Germany, Italy, the Czech and Slovak Republics, Switzerland and Japan.
I moved to Lanzarote in 2007. Since living here I have taught at Colegio Daos in Matagorda, Queen’s School in Playa Blanca and after-school classes in Soo Primary School.
I am proud to say that I still teach many of the Soo students at Academia La Costa and they all have an excellent level of English.
Many of them have passed Cambridge B1 and B2 exams this year.
In 2008 I also began to teach individual English classes to children and adults in Tinajo and English to waiters, cleaners and shop assistants at Club La Santa.
My adult classes are tailor-made to individuals' needs, be they policeman, taxi drivers, hoteliers, etc.
I love teaching and helping my students to gain confidence, whether it is general conversation, work related or to achieve a Cambridge exam.
If you want to learn English and I haven’t met you yet, come along for a trial class. I will help you learn and improve in a relaxed, unpressurised atmosphere. After all learning a language is about enjoying communicating with people from other countries with different cultures and languages.

Fui profesora de escuela primaria y subdirectora en Inglaterra durante 25 años antes de venir a vivir a Lanzarote.
Me encanta vivir en Lanzarote, me encanta la cultura de la isla y el idioma español. También me gusta participar en deportes, especialmente natación y correr, y a menudo juego al tenis.
Como parte de mi carrera docente, estudié para enseñar inglés como lengua extranjera, en ese momento enseñaba niños refugiados que hablaban una variedad de idiomas, incluidos el urdu, el gujaratí y el hindi, pero no el inglés.
Desde entonces he enseñado a niños y adultos de muchos países diferentes, incluidos Francia, Alemania, Italia, la República Checa y Eslovaca, Suiza y Japón.
Me mudé a Lanzarote en 2007. Desde que vivo aquí he enseñado en el Colegio Daos en Matagorda, el Queen's School en Playa Blanca y clases extraescolares en la Escuela Primaria Soo.
Estoy orgullosa de decir que todavía enseño a muchos de los estudiantes de Soo en la Academia La Costa y que todos tienen un excelente nivel de inglés.
Muchos de ellos han aprobado los exámenes de Cambridge B1 y B2 este año.
También comencé en 2008 a dar clases individuales de inglés a niños y adultos en Tinajo e inglés a los camareros, a los limpiadores y a los dependientes en Club La Santa.
Mis clases de adultos están adaptado de las necesidades de las personas, ya sean policías, taxistas, hoteleros, etc.
Me encanta enseñar y ayudar a mis alumnos a ganar confianza, ya sea en una conversación general, relacionada con el trabajo o para obtener un examen de Cambridge.
Si quieres aprender inglés y aún no te he conocido, ven a una clase de prueba. Le ayudaré a aprender y mejorar en un ambiente relajado y sin presiones, después de todo, aprender un idioma se trata de disfrutar de la comunicación con personas de otros países con diferentes culturas e idiomas.
